CHRISTMAS CHARITIES 2011

Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind, Northampton and Warwickshire Air Ambulance, Orbis, Smile Train and Tiny Tims.Total raised £577

COVENTRY MYTON HOSPICE The total sum raised for the 2011 project was £3477.44p and will be presented at the February Parade service

The Project for 2012 is Global Care. This will be launched on Sunday Feb: 11th 2012

Girls Brigade App Workshop

On Monday evening (30th January) the Girls Brigade Seniors took part in a mobile phone app workshop run by the Technology Volunteers. The girls split into teams and with limited time available they were challenged to develop a design for a mobile phone app. The next challenge was to present the designs to the group. Each group came up with original and creative designs, and entertaining presentations – it was a fun evening.

Carol Singing at Tesco Jubilee Crescent raised £74 for this years Christmas Charities (Coventry Resource Centre for the Blind, Northampton and Warwickshire Air Ambulance, Orbis, Smile Train and Tiny Tims Centre). The final total raised for Christmas Charities came to £577

The fundraising for the church charity project (Coventry Myton Hospice) has now reached £3500 and will be presented on Feb:12 th 2012

We also collected goods needed for the Coventry Open Christmas Project. Three car boot loads of goods given by members of the congregation were delivered to Queens Road Baptist Church to support the Coventry Open Christmas shelter (now in its 20th year).

Apple Fundraising

Roy and Beryl Shakespeare have been selling their home grown apples to raise money for the Tiny Tims Childrens Centre in Coventry. Its been a bumper year for apples, and they’ve raised £121, to further the work of the centre.

Beryl also made apple pies to raise funds for this years Church Project, Coventry Myton Hospice, and raised a further £43.

John Hardwick’s Visit

Over the past few years we’ve played and sung a lot of John Hardwick’s music in the Holiday Club we run in August, and this year it was a great pleasure for us to have John lead it in person. This weekend, he returned to Coventry and to Holyhead Road URC to share more of his enthusiasm for childrens work. John led several activities over the course of the weekend, which were as much fun to be part of as the holiday club he’d run for us.

The weekend started with a Creative Communications workshop on Saturday morning. John demonstrated a variety of ways of explaining bible passages to children. These included the use of story telling, music and video to explain and make memorable key points of a bible passage, emphasising the importance of giving a clear message. One technique of particular interest was the use of a puppet to have a conversation with. He also invited everyone interested to take part in the Big Bible Verse Challenge. The aim is to learn a bible verse every week for a year through music videos made available to participants via email.

In the afternoon he led a Praise party at church. The aim was to have fun and learn a bit more about the bible together. At the party, it was easy to see how much the children enjoyed the approaches he’d been describing and teaching at the morning workshop. There were songs, games, story telling, and juggling – but watch out – you might need to do some practice before performing the juggling in front of a live audience (if only for their safety).

The following day John led the parade service. This continued the weekend theme of creative communication, with the congregation also learning some of the actions to John’s songs, which focus on bible passages.

John Hardwick weekend

Saturday November 5th
9.45am – 12.30pm Creative Communications Workshop: for
adults working with or interested in working with children in a Christian environment.

3pm – 4.15pm Cool & Crazy Praise Party: for children and families. Including crazy juggling, cool songs, X-citing stories, crazy quiz and cheeky puppet! Come along and have fun, keep fit and celebrate – all at the same time! Then join us for sausage and jacket potato.

Sunday 6th November
10.30am All Age Workship
Another chance to sing some cool songs, listen to stories and worship – whatever your age and whether you’re used to coming to church or not.

2010 Church Project RESULTS

At our recent Church meeting The Revd. Bill Young read out a letter from the Critical Care Unit at UHCW regarding the £ 3000 we raised for communication equipment.Sister Caroline Hill of the unit said they had bought 5 communication devices and 3 DVD players which are now in daily use. You can read more in the current edition of our by-monthly magazine the Herald which is on sale within the Church

Snowdonia Marathon

On Saturday October 29th Gaynor Evans a member of our Church is taking part in this event and is asking for sponsors. Her aim is to raise funds for the Cancer appeal and our Project, the Coventry Myton Hospice. (Sponsor forms in Church on Sunday.)
