Rev’d Bill Young Announces Retirement

Bill has announced this week that he will be retiring from the URC pastoral ministry with effect from the end of this calendar year.

After a short break in early 2021, he will continue to be active in leading worship as a retired minister within our Area. The URC requests its retired ministers to withdraw from activity in the churches where they have served and Bill has consulted on what this means for someone who has held both local church and Area-wide roles during the last 24 years since ordination; it will be appropriate for he and Erica to move their membership away from Holyhead Road URC after over 30 years.

Bill wanted to give everyone six months’ notice of this change – due to the current pandemic he is saddened to be doing this as he describes it “rather impersonally, and at a time when many aspects of church life already seem to be in the melting pot”.  Bill commented, “Who knows what the next six months will hold? We will pray and hope for a continuation of the imaginative prayer and faith-filled response that has characterised church life since the beginning of the crisis.”

Holyhead Road will be very sad indeed to see Bill’s (and Erica’s) departure but we are immensely grateful for the many years of faithful and faith-filled service we have received. This is a well-earned retirement – and we are SURE that it will not be a lazy one!
